Guidelines & Recommendation on changes in Oracle Certified Master, Java EE5 Enterprise Architect (earlier known as SCEA) Certification

Oracle is changing certification requirements from 1st October, 2011 but this article summarizes all the information with respect to the same.

If you want to do certification in current format, here are the important guidelines:

  • You need to clear all three steps (multiple choice exam, assignment & essay) before 30th September, 2011
  • If you want to ensure that you receive grade before 30th Sep, you need to submit your assignment (2nd part) & essay (3rd part) before 27th August
  • Otherwise, you can still submit your assignment & essay before 30th Sep, but if you fail in that, resubmission requires meeting new certification requirements. If you PASS, you will not need to do anything.

If you want to do certification post 30th September, 2011, here are the important guidelines:

  • Certification format for exam, assignment & essay will remain same. There are no indications from Oracle that it will change after 1st October.
  • Only additional part is that you need to attend mandatory training course from Oracle
or Oracle University Training partner (note that any other training will not count). You need to do only one course from the list below:

o   Java Programming Language, Java SE 6

o   Object-Oriented Analysis and Design Using UML

o   Developing Applications for the Java EE 6 Platform

o   Developing Architectures for Enterprise Java Applications

o   Developing Applications for the Java EE 5 Platform

  • Interesting fact that you need not to do architecture related course from Oracle for this certification. Even basic Java certification will fulfill the purpose.

Recommendation

  • Give multiple-choice exam (part 1), part2 & part3 before 30th September, 2011. Even if you submit assignment on last day, in positive scenario (PASS), you are no longer required to do any course from Oracle (which can cost you dearly). You can take training course for this certification from Whizlabs, which will help you in preparation to meet deadlines (for all three parts).
  • If you decide to do certification after 1st October, 2011, then do basic training from Oracle (Java Programming Language) as it is less expensive & attend full-fledged certification training from others (Whizlabs offer OCM-EA or SCEA instructor-led online training in cost-effective way with certified trainer)
