Tech Skills for 2016

With the New Year under way most of us feel the need to rejuvenate ourselves with new skills in the tech industry. New aspirations, new career choices and the need to step up our career, motivates most of us. The skills that will likely to shape our career this year, is explored in this post.

  1. Programming languages like Java,C, C++, Python

The concept of programming was a new one in the 90s, but not so now. It is more natural and normal for young teenagers to be in tune with the different programming languages and their importance.

‘Hackathons’ are organized which brings the coders and project managers to work on software projects in a coordinated way. Since programming languages are embedded in different technologies, it is still good to invest our time to learn Java, C, C++, C#, Python, PHP or Ruby which will definitely be in need for the year 2016.

  1. Data visualization/Data scientist/Data analytics

“Data science” – the blanket title to describe a variety of “Data” roles is definitely going to be one of the most sought after skill for this year and beyond.

Whether it be financial use cases like “risk analysis and management, fraud detection and security analytics, CRM and customer loyalty programs”, retail and consumer use cases like “supply chain management and analytics, event and behavior based targeting” (Big Data Use Cases)or health and life science use cases or telecommunication use cases, data science roles ensure that key business goals are achieved while enabling organizations to attain commercial growth.

Regardless of the industry, “data science” and its job variations will definitely provide ample job opportunities this year.

  1. Mobile app development(Android/iOS)

Since consumers are moving more from desktops and laptops to mobiles for shopping and other services, mobile apps are growing in a big way. Mobile app development including Android app development,  iOS app development and other mobile app development pertaining to specific operating systems promises the way to a great future.

  1. PMP

The PMP certification is not a skill to be mastered but a certification to be attained for a better career graph. It is the gold standard for IT professionals and individuals belonging to other verticals as well. Regardless of critics of certifications, the PMP certification holds good value for the organization that employs the individual, the individual himself and for the customers of the organization.

Hence, getting PMP certified will also boost your chances of better employment at higher wages.

  1. Digital marketing

The new kid on the block – “Digital marketing” which is primarily attracting customers via the online medium and retaining them has grown tremendously over the past few years and will continue to do so. “Digital marketing” might not be exactly a technical skill but combines both technology and marketing and shows great promise.

Since we are constantly bombarded with data from all directions it is up to the “digital marketer” to manage complex customer interactions, wade through the digital trail that an individual leaves and convert them into customers.

Mastering ‘Digital marketing’ enhances one’s job prospects for this year.

 

In addition to these new skills, mastering the skills relating to networking, security, cloud/SaaS round off the top few tech skills for the year 2016.
