IBM Test 287 (WebSphere Certification) is one of the four exams that lead to IBM Certified Enterprise Developer - WebSphere Studio, V5.0 certification.

All the four exams are:
  • Test 287: Enterprise Application Development with IBM WebSphere Studio, V5.0
  • Test 486: Object-Oriented Analysis and Design with UML
  • Test 484: Enterprise Connectivity with J2EE V1.3
  • Test 310-025: Sun Certified Programmer for the Java 2 Platform 1.2

  • OR
    Test 310-035: Sun Certified Programmer for the Java 2 Platform 1.4

IBM Test 287 (WebSphere Certification) Details

Prerequisites
First of all, I will discuss the prerequisites for taking IBM Test 287 (WebSphere Certification). These are:
  • Thorough knowledge of the following J2EE APIs
    1. Java 2 SDK
    2. JSP 1.2
    3. Servlet 2.3
    4. EJB 2.0 and
    5. JDBC 2.0
  • A plenty of work experience in WSAD 5.x, including the development and deployment of Web based and EJB based applications.
Along with:
  • Thorough knowledge of object-oriented analysis and design
  • Basic knowledge of web services technologies
    1. SOAP
    2. WSDL
    3. UDDI
Test 287 Details

The test consists of 7 sections containing approximately 52 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 120 minutes. A list of the same is given below. The percentage value in parentheses after each section reflects the approximate distribution of the total question set across the sections. The required passing percentage for this exam is 62% for the actual test and 60% for the pre-assessment/sample test at http://ibmtesting.prime.prometric.com/

Test 287 Objectives
The main test objectives of IBM Test 287 (WebSphere certification) are:

Section 1 - Design, build and test reusable enterprise components (25%)
Section 2 - Design, build and test web components (19%)
Section 3 - Develop clients that access the enterprise components (8%)
Section 4 - Demonstrate understanding of database connectivity and messaging within IBM WebSphere Application Server (8%)
Section 5 - EJB transactions (10%)
Section 6 - Assemble enterprise applications and deploy them in IBM WebSphere Application Server (15%)
Section 7 - Validate, tune and troubleshoot an application within an IBM WebSphere Application Server environment (15%)

Test Fee
The test fee for Test 287 is US $175 worldwide, except in the emerging market countries where it is US $75.

Test Preparation
This test needs a dedicated preparation of about 3 months, 6 to 8 hours of study daily for a novice having SCJP. A person already certified in SCWCD and SCBCD can prepare for this certification within 3 to 4 weeks of 6 to 8 hours studies.
