Who should take the MS-100: Microsoft 365 Identity and Services certification exam?

This exam is for you if you are a Microsoft 365 Enterprise Administrator and are responsible for the planning, evaluation, migration, deployment, and management of Microsoft 365 services. This role requires you to perform Microsoft 365 tenant management tasks for an enterprise involving its security, compliance, identities, Power Platform, and other technologies that support it.

The MS-100: Microsoft 365 Identity and Services certification exam is one of the two exams required to earn the credential of a Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert, the other one being MS-101: Microsoft 365 Mobility and Security.

To be eligible to take any of the MS-100 or MS-101 certification exams, you have to earn one of these credentials:

  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate
  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Security Administrator Associate
  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Messaging Administrator Associate
  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Teams Administrator Associate
  • Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator Associate


What are the prerequisites for the MS-100 exam?

The recommended prerequisites for taking the MS-100 exam include:

  • Hands-on with Microsoft 365 workloads, server administration, and networking
  • Being an administrator in the deployment for any of them, that is, Teams, SharePoint, Exchange, or Windows 10
  • Working knowledge of IT Fundamentals including PowerShell, Active Directory, and DNS


What skills will be measured in the MS-100: Microsoft 365 Identity and Services exam?

The various exam domains and objectives along with their weightage follow:

  • Deploy and manage a Microsoft 365 tenant: This section covers around 15-20% of the exam objectives. It includes planning identity and authentication solutions, modernization of enterprise applications, migration of on-premises users and groups, planning and creation of tenant and subscription, the configuration of organizational settings, and more.
  • Plan and manage user identity and roles: This domain covers approximately 30-35% of the exam questions. It includes evaluating solutions and requirements for identity synchronization, authentication and planning, managing, and allocating roles using Azure AD.
  • Manage access and authentication: This part covers around 20-25% of the exam. It includes designing, configuring, implementing, managing, and monitoring authentication and its methods, the configuration of application registration, application proxy in Azure AD, and more.
  • Plan Microsoft 365 workloads and applications: This entails around 20-25% of the exam objectives. It includes planning for Office online, Microsoft Connectivity, Microsoft 365 app compatibility and updates, Microsoft telemetry and reporting, and more.
