Why did you appear in SCJP Certification?
 

My main purpose of appearing for SCJP was to strengthen my knowledge of Java and to have a good add on in my CV.

How to prepare for SCJP Certification Exam?
 

I prepared mostly from the book "SCJP 5 Study Guide by Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates" and for mock tests used Whizlabs mock exams.

What resources did you use for your preparation and how these resources helped you?
 

The main resources I used were the book "SCJP 5 Study Guide by Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates" which helped a lot in understanding various concepts and Whizlabs mock tests which I found extremely close to the actual exam and really helped me to test the concepts which I have learnt.

Your inputs on the kind of questions one should expect?
 

In SCJP exam one should mostly expect questions which test your understanding of a concept rather than memorization of facts.

Tips and Ticks for the Exam?
 

Cover the entire syllabus through the Kathy Sierra book. Dont leave any portion of the syllabus uncovered and practise a lot using mock tests like the ones from Whizlabs.

I found the whizlabs software very good and sat the exam on the 4th August 2009 scoring a pass of 75%. I found that I did very badly on the API contents section(42) so this pulled down my score a bit – I was hoping for 80+% but didn’t put in enough work! On the plus point I did score highly on concurrency (100) an generics/collections(87). Overall I would recommend the whizlabs software to colleagues.
