Tips For First Day In Office

Change in life always comes with a mixed feeling of joy and fear. It is your first day in office and you are feeling nervous, don’t worry its human nature. As everything including building, co-workers, seniors, juniors, your workstation is new to you, you may find yourself to be little uncomfortable. You might feel that everyone is noticing you, but it can only be your imagination because employees are too occupied with the work these days that even if they are looking at anyone, it is not necessary that they are thinking about him only. There is a possibility that they are thinking about a list of meetings planned for that day or some critical emails yet to be answered or some urgent pending work.

Some tips for your first day

Prepare a day before

Check your wardrobe for your best formal outfit, even if the next day is Friday, still select a formal and decent outfit and make sure you’re well presented. As most of the people will be meeting you for the first time you have to try to leave a good impression on them. Put all the documents required by HR and Finance on the first day of joining, in a neat file or a folder.

Say “All the best” to yourself

Even if you don’t believe in prayers, close your eyes for a minute to wish for the best.

Be confident

Don’t get nervous, be confident, as this new place would no longer be new to you after a week. Think about how confidently you have cracked all the rounds of the interviews, and they have chosen you over a lot of candidates who had applied for this job. You are among the lucky ones selected.  So you are at least above a lot many. Such thoughts may give you a lot of confidence. Wear abroad smile on your face and greet everyone you meet with confidence. Hide your emotions even if you’re scared, be friendly and show you’re interested to get started and learn. Nobody expects you to know everything on your first day!

Be attentive

Try to remember the first name of most of the people. Nobody remembers all the names of all the people they meet on their first day, so it is fine if you forget any name just apologize and ask that person’s name again. For initial few days you would be under learning phase so try to speak less and listen more. You might feel boring and uncomfortable, but this is quite natural everyone feels this way on their first day, whether they’re a first-jobber or not. You don’t know anyone and you have a lot to learn, so maintain your confident look throughout the day.

Don’t hesitate, ask

If you are not sure don’t feel reluctant to ask. Don’t think that people might laugh or make fun of you for asking such a stupid question. As you are new to people would co-operate and try to resolve your doubts. And if it is  work related it’s better to ask as much as you can in your first couple of weeks your manager and colleagues won’t mind  as they too have gone through this phase before you – and they’ll be glad you’re showing an interest.  Make sure that you don’t ask the same question over and over again. Be very attentive and try your best to pick up things quickly.

Know your place

Show your keen interest when your manager take you through company hierarchy on your first day. You must have explored a lot about your company before accepting the offer letter. Try to recall it and it will be easy for you to find out how the company is structured.

Finally you can proceed to your workstation and start your day!!!
